Reagan County Uses Small Ball, Pitching to Overpower Grape Creek

 

GRAPE CREEK, TX-- The Reagan County Lady Owls tallied 15 hits in a 7-1 district win over the Grape Creek Lady Eagles on Friday.

The Lady Eagles held the Lady Owls scoreless through the first two frames.

Starting in the third inning, Reagan County scored seven unanswered runs before Grape Creek managed a consolation run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nini and Yulissa Balderas, as well as Kaylee Vargas, went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Owls. Vargas and Valeria Ortiz tallied the lone RBIs for Reagan County.

Yulissa Balderas pitched the entire game for Reagan County and struck out eight batters to get the win.

Grape Creek managed just three hits in the loss.

Caroline and Morgan Fowler went 1-for-3 for the Lady Eagles. Caroline was the lone run scored for Grape Creek. Teiggan Rivers also went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Rose Bannert got the losing decision in seven innings of work where she struck out five innings.

Big Lake (4-5, 2-1) will play district leader Wall (12-4, 3-0) on Tuesday in Big Lake at 5 p.m., while Grape Creek (12-4, 1-2) will host Sonora (9-8, 1-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
