Burnett Comes Home to be Brownwood's New AD/Head Football Coach

BROWNWOOD, TX-- The Brownwood Lions have found their new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach according to a report from KTXS.

Brownwood ISD announced on Thursday that former Farmersville Head Coach Sammy Burnett will take the position that was vacated two-and-a-half weeks ago by Kyle Maxfield, who took the same post at Bangs High School.

Burnett, a graduate from Brownwood High School and Howard Payne, returns home after posting a 42-26 record during his six years at the helm of Farmersville.

The new hire will be the third coach for the Lions in the last four seasons.

Prior to Maxwell taking over prior to the 2016 season, the Lions had been led by Chuck Howard for three years. Howard led the Lions for three years including a trip to the State Quarterfinals in 2015 before departing in the spring of 2016.

The Brownwood Lions went 6-5 in 2017 and will play in Region 2, District 5-4A Division I with China Spring, Gatesville, Stephenville and Waco La Vega for the 2018 and 2019 football seasons.
