Grape Creek Athletic Director and Football Coach Resigns

SAN ANGELO, TX — Grape Creek Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Justin Mueller has resigned said Grape Creek ISD Superintendent Angie Smetana Wednesday night.

Mueller ended his tenure that lasted about a year in Grape Creek after an unfortunate arrest December 15 last year for assault that causes bodily injury/family violence. The arrest was based upon an accusation and Tom Green County Attorney Chris Taylor cleared him of the charges earlier this month. According to Taylor, witness and victim’s statements did not line up.

Nonetheless, the arrest made the headlines in San Angelo.

Grape Creek has experienced frequent turnover for its head football coach position recently. Late in the spring of 2017, Grape Creek lost its previous athletic director and Head Coach Kyle Atwood. He resigned to take the same position at Alice, in south Texas.

Grape Creek then hired Mueller as Head Coach and AD. Mueller, a native of Stamford, who was previously the White Oak Offensive Coordinator, brought a different offensive scheme back to his native west Texas.

But the 2017 season was a building year for Grape Creek. The varsity football team’s record during Mueller’s first and only year was 1-10.

HEY LAKEVIEW !!!!!!!!
He did win 1 game last year...
That's a 100% better season than you had this past season with your coach.......

Let’s see, alleged offense committed in mid December. Case resolved by mid January. “Witness and victim’s statements did not line up.” Makes sense, high profile, friend in the castle perhaps...who knows? The only thing strange about it is that there is at leat one other domestic violence case there in which the “victim” is willing to testify in favor of the alleged abuser that the charges are trumped up. It is difficult to understand why the case has dragged on for about six months while offers of a plea bargain are made to the alleged abuser.
