On Monday, Oct. 23, the new Texas Football rankings and Associated Press Texas High School football poll were released following the week eight action.
Ahead of their highly publicized rivalry game, the Central Bobcats (7-0, 3-0) and Permian Panthers (6-0, 3-0) moved up one spot in both polls and remain neck and neck.
In the AP Poll, the Bobcats are receiving three votes and tied with San Antonio O' Connor. The Panthers are right behind Central with two votes.
In the Texas Football rankings, the Bobcats moved up one spot to 16 in the rankings following their 49-14 victory over Wolfforth Frenship. The Permian Panthers also moved up one spot to 17 in the rankings after a 49-7 demolishing of Amarillo Tascosa.
These two teams are set for what will arguably be the best game of the week throughout the state when they square off this Friday at San Angelo Stadium.
The Wall Hawks (7-0, 2-0) stayed atop the rankings in both lists following their 64-13 victory on Friday over district foe Crane.
Wall stayed second in the AP poll behind 3A-D2 Gunter and is the highest ranked 3A-D1 team.
In the Texas Football rankings, which splits up classes 4A on down into their respective divisions, the undefeated Hawks claimed the top spot for 3A-D1 once again.
Wall will take on Mildland Christian this Friday in a non-district clash.
For 2A-D1, the Mason Punchers (7-0, 1-0) held on to their second spot in both rankings thanks to another stellar defensive performance in their 49-0 win over Harper.
In the AP poll, the Punchers remain behind undefeated Tenaha. The Texas Football rankings have the Punchers ranked behind Mart (6-1).
Mason will take on Brackett in a district matchup this Friday, looking to keep pace with current district front-runner Sabinal (6-1, 2-0). Mason and Sabinal face each other on Nov. 10 to close out the season.
