One Vote Difference Prompts Call for Recount in Pct. 1 Commissioner Primary

SAN ANGELO, TX - Michelle DeRusso, running for Tom Green County Commissioner Precinct 1, has called for a recount after a count on Wednesday, including provisional ballots and mail-in ballots, showed her one vote behind incumbent Commissioner Ralph Hoelscher.

The March 5 Republican Primary saw a close race for Pct. 1 between Hoelscher and DeRusso.

The final, unofficial count showed that Hoelscher received 862 votes earlier, while DeRusso fell short with 860.

DeRusso announced on her Facebook page Wednesday that she will pay for the recount, “which is not cheap,” and that donations would be appreciated.

Tom Green County Republican Party Chairman Bruce Burkett said that he plans to canvass the results at 2 p.m. today at the TGC Republican Party office, located at 2525 Johnson St., Suite A.

Once the votes are canvassed, they become official.

However, a recount can be called up two days after the votes are canvassed.

We will continue reporting on this situation.
