Austin Band Brings Rootsy Southern Rock 'n' Roll to San Angelo

When it comes to Fan comments on their Facebook page, people describe Statesboro Revue's shows as "PHENOMENAL! Had a blast," and "Just the BEST!!!" They also say, "Y'all kicked some serious (expletive) tonight!!! Thanks for an awesome show." One photo even shows people lined up to buy tickets, while another has an audience pan shot that is standing room only.

Well San Angeloans, get ready. This Saturday, it'll be your turn to see just what all the commotion is about.

Stewart Mann, lead vocalist for Statesboro Revue, is possibly the biggest fan of the Southern Rock band The Allman Brothers. He even named his own band after one of their songs.

"Statesboro is a town in Georgia, and the ABB covered a song called 'Statesboro Blues' originally done by Blind Willie McTell," said Mann. He added that over the years, "we've played a couple of shows with the ABB, but have yet to meet them."

Mann also said all of his influences are from the 60s and 70s

"I don't really have any influences from then on except maybe some of the country stuff," he said. "I grew up listening to a wide variety of music, which has affected what we've played over the years."

Listed on the band's Facebook page, the group states their influences range from Mississippi John Hurt to Chris Cornell, and even The Black Crowes. The Austin, Texas based Rootsy Southern Rock 'n' Roll' band is comprised of Stewart Mann - Vocals/Acoustic Guitar/Harmonica, Garrett Mann - Electric Guitar, Kris Schoen - Drums, Ben Bradshaw - Bass, and Travis Bishop - Keys.

Mann said, "Over the years, we've kind of become a little more Americana, but the older stuff, like 'Shine On', off our first album is definitely rooted in Rock 'n' Roll."

Recently, on July 4, the band played Gruene Hall and posted a video describing the event. They said after 16 years of playing music professionally, their first ever, main stage, headlining show almost sold out.

"[We're] so humbled, blessed, and appreciative of the support we received in New Braunfels/Gruene. Dreams do come true and relentless hard work really does pay off," they said.

Mann added that he's especially proud of Statesboro Revue's most recent single 'Undone,' which got up to number 6 on the Texas Music charts.

"It's inspired by a buddy of mine who lives in Big Spring and works in the oil fields," Mann said.

As for Saturday's show, Mann said, "It's been awhile since we've played Blaine's, but we love that place. It's a pretty good feeling to have people singing along to our songs. We always appreciate San Angelo and their love for live music. It seems like the smaller venues have a better energy than in some of the larger ones in big cities."

With that being said, "travel, good music, good people and good times" are what this band entails, so if you're looking for a great night of entertainment, check them out at Blaine's this Saturday. They'll take the stage at 10 p.m.
