ASU to Host 2016 Summer Music Camp

Angelo State University’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts opened registration for the 2016 ASU Summer Music Camp.

The camp is for students entering the seventh grade through recent high school graduates.

The Color Guard, Drumline and Drum Majors Camp will take place Wednesday-Saturday, June 1-4, and the Band and Orchestra Camp will run Sunday-Thursday, June 5-10.

The band and orchestra camp was redesigned in 2015 and now includes string instruments. Both camps will end with a public performance.

The fee for the Color Guard, Drumline and Drum Majors Camp is $290, including housing in ASU’s Centennial Village residence hall and meals, or $199 for commuters. Registration for the Band and Orchestra Camp is $399 with housing and meals, or $258 for commuters. The commuter fees include lunches and dinners. Private lessons will also be available for an additional fee.

Eligibility for the camp includes being part of a structured music program for at least one and not having previously attended college. Registrations completed on or before May 5 will receive a 10 percent discount.

On the first day of Band and Orchestra Camp, students will perform a short audition piece to determine placement among the ensembles. The audition music may be found online at www.angelo.edu/content/files/18732-band-camp-audition-music.

Students will then choose two from among six focused courses: Rhythm Breakdown, Music Theory, Chamber Ensembles, Leadership Seminar, Conducting, and Special Topics.

Junior high and high school music directors can register for a concurrent four-day program that will run June 5-10 and will include activities and fellowship with other directors.

For more information, details on additional discounts and to register, go online to www.angelo.edu/musiccamps or email the camp director, Dr. Constance Kelley, at [email protected].
