Angelo State University Designated a U.S. 'College of Distinction' for 6th Straight Time

SAN ANGELO, TX – For the sixth straight year, Angelo State University has been named a national "College of Distinction" by the Colleges of Distinction print and online college guide that recognizes colleges and universities implementing best practices in higher education.

Angelo State is one of only 414 schools, representing 47 states, and one of only five Texas public universities to earn the national 2023-24 "College of Distinction" designation.

In addition to its national recognition, ASU earned the following designations for 2023-24:

  • "Public College of Distinction"
  • "Texas College of Distinction"
  • "Affordability College of Distinction"
  • "Military Support College of Distinction"
  • "Equity and Inclusion College of Distinction"

Schools are selected for the various designations for employing High-Impact Practices and demonstrating excellence in four key areas identified by Colleges of Distinction as the "Four Distinctions" - Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.

"We believe that engaged students are successful students," said Tyson Schritter, COO of Colleges of Distinction. "Every student has individual needs and flourishes in a specific environment. We prefer to focus on the innovative ways that colleges are providing an enriching undergraduate experience. We are deeply inspired by how Angelo State University immerses students in their academic pursuits, fostering a welcoming community that provides unwavering support throughout their college years and beyond."

ASU has also been recognized for three individual academic programs, being named a "Business College of Distinction," "Education College of Distinction" and "Nursing College of Distinction." These designations are based on accreditation, breadth of program and a track record for success.

"To again receive national recognition that touches on so many different areas of our campus is a feather in Angelo State's cap," said ASU President Ronnie Hawkins Jr. "It confirms that we are providing our students with the education and campus experiences they need for future success. Repeatedly being named a College of Distinction also raises our national profile and makes Angelo State an attractive destination for many more prospective students."

An in-depth profile of ASU will be published in the 2023-24 Colleges of Distinction guidebook and on the CollegesOfDistinction.com website, which provides the information to college-bound students, their parents and high school counselors without a subscription fee.
