Roscoe High School Closed After Student Incident

 

ROSCOE, TX – Students at Roscoe High School were sent home on Monday morning after a suicide attempt on campus.

According to information from the Roscoe Collegiate Independent School District, on Apr. 24, 2023 at around 9:30 a.m., law enforcement, as well as paramedics, from the area were called to the Roscoe Collegiate High School for the report of an attempted suicide.

The suicide victim was a student on campus. The unidentified teen was taken to the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater. The male student's condition has not been revealed at this time.

"Parents, please know everyone else at RCISD is safe," said Roscoe CISD's Superintendent Dr. Guillermo Mancha, Jr. in a statement sent out to parents. "I would like to stress to our RCISD community, that our people within our facilities are safe. Moreover, RCISD is working with multiple agencies within Nolan County in order further secure our people and facilities. We are currently working on a reunification plan for our students and parents/guardians. The reunification plan will take some time, we ask for our parents cooperation."

Students were released to their parents after being moved to the event center. 

The Sweetwater Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are currently on scene at the school.
