Bomb Squad Responds to Suspicious Package at Big Country School

MORAN— A kindergarten student caused Moran ISD in the Big Country to be placed into lockdown after taking a suspicious package to school Tuesday.

Moran ISD Superintendent Dr. John Denson held a press conference with Sheriff Edward Miller and said that Moran school staff took a decent sized package of fireworks from a kindergartener this morning.

The Abilene Bomb Squad took the package around noon and no other suspicious items were located. Sheriff Miller said the fireworks weren’t powerful enough to cause harm to anyone who wasn’t close to the package if it had gone off.

After being placed on lockdown, law enforcement and first responders arrived on the campus, clearing classrooms and evacuated students to a nearby location.

The package was determined to be a Valentine’s Day box where the children could collect valentines from other students in class. Now, an investigation has begun so find the adult that helped the young student not only make the box but take the box to school.

Classes at Moran ISD returned to normal after the school was cleared by the bomb squad.  Moran is between Albany and Cisco.
