WINTERS — An Abilene man has been arrested on warrants for Online Solicitation of a Minor after stalking a 12-year-old Winters girl on social media and eventually coercing her into meeting him in a park.
According to the Winters Police Department Facebook, WPD received a report of an attempted aggravated kidnapping and online solicitation of a minor after a 12-year-old girl met a man on social media.
Contact was frequent on the social media account and through text messages. Eventually, the 12-year-old agreed to meet the man at a park inside Winters city limits. While the 12-year-old was at the park, a family friend ran into her and noticed that something did not seem right and contacted the girl’s family.
The family arrived at the park and the suspect fled the scene.
Winters Police Department offices were able to positively identify the suspect as Ernest Martinez Jr. of Abilene. Warrants were issued for his arrest and the Department of Public Safety’s CID was able to locate Martinez Jr. and take him into custody on January 16, 2023.
Martinez Jr. was booked into the Taylor County Jail for attempted aggravated kidnapping and online solicitation of a minor and has a $330,000 bond.
