Shooting Suspect Struck & Killed After Fleeing from Custody

 

MINEOLA, TX – A shooting suspect who fled from deputies was struck and killed on Wednesday afternoon by a passing motorist in east Texas. 

According to the Wood County Sheriff's Office, on Dec. 28, 2022, Wood County Deputies responded to a shots fired call located East of Mineola off Hwy 80. Upon arrival of Deputies, the suspect had run into the wood line.

A perimeter was set up in an attempt to locate the suspect. While on scene, the Sheriff's Office was notified of several houses broken into near the area of FM 1801. Additional units arrived in the area and eventually began "pushing into the tree line" in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Eventually the suspect exited the tree line near Hwy 80 and ran into the highway where he was struck by a passing vehicle. The suspect was care flighted to Tyler where he was later pronounced deceased.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. A 9mm pistol was located near the deceased's shoes in the roadway.
