BREAKING: Former SAPD Officer Arrested by Texas Rangers on Felony Charges

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A former San Angelo Police Officer earlier this month was arrested after a grand jury indicted him on felony drug charges.

According to the indictment, on Dec. 9, 2022, Bryan Butch James, 56, of San Angelo, was indicted by a Tom Green County Grand Jury for possession of a controlled substance. In the indictment it alleges that in Feb. 2021, James had been in possession of more than one gram but less than four grams of Oxycodone.

When asked about the issue San Angelo Police's public information department released the following statement.

Former San Angelo Police Officer, Bryan James, was arrested on the charge of Possession of a Controlled substance.  In February 2021, James resigned from SAPD during an ongoing internal affairs investigation.  The internal investigation was turned over to the Texas Rangers which subsequently led to the issuance of a Grand Jury Indictment for James. Further inquiries regarding the arrest should be directed to the Texas Rangers.

James was arrested for the indictment on Dec. 19 and was released the same day on a $7,500 surety bond. His next appearance in court will be for a post indictment reporting on Feb. 15, 2023 at 8:30 a.m.
