Miles Victim Identified in Murder Case

MILES, TX — Runnels County Sheriff identified the victim of Thursday's homicide. Killed was Antonio Hernandez Romo, 57, of Miles. He suffered a gunshot wound, but officials are waiting on autopsy results before declaring it the official cause of death. On Thursday at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers of the Miles Police Department were dispatched to a reported assault in the 800 Block of Elm Street in Miles.

Runnels County Sheriff Carl Squyres said the evidence at the Elm Street residence revealed an altercation had occurred resulting in at least one victim being severely injured. The suspect, Thomas Peiser, was found inside the home, and he was uncooperative with investigators. No bodies or other people were found at the residence upon the arrival of law enforcement, Squyres said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Peiser leave the residence earlier that day, driving north on Thomas Rd. and that he returned a short time thereafter. This led investigators north looking for a body. Squyres enlisted the assistance of the Miles VFD to search for the victim. Miles police, Runnels County Sheriff's Deputies, Texas DPS assisted in the search.  Once a murder investigation was declared, the Texas Rangers assisted.

Miles VFD personnel found the body in a field near the intersection of FM 2333 and County Road 392 shortly after 5:30 p.m., Squyres said.

Peiser was taken into custody at the residence and was subsequently booked into the Runnels County Jail. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.
