Border Patrol Agents Arrest Mexican National Convicted for Sexual Assault

Eagle Pass, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents working in Eagle Pass arrested a man who was previously convicted of sexual assault on a minor.

On June 24, border patrol agents arrested Michell Tapia Tizcareno, a 26-year-old Mexican national, while patrolling the Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass, according to a U.S. customs and border patrol press release.

During processing, record checks revealed that Tapia Tizcareno is a registered sex offender who had been convicted in 2015 of aggravated sexual battery (sexual assault by force) on a victim between the ages of 13 and 14 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Tizcareno was sentenced to three years of incarceration and was subsequently removed to Mexico.

Tapia Tizcareno faces charges of illegal reentry after deportation - 8 USC § 1326 - and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.

“The men and women of the United States Border Patrol are committed to protecting and serving our citizens,” Del Rio Sector Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak, stated. “Our agents understand the types of threats that endanger our border and will work endlessly to keep citizens safe from harm.”
