U.S. Border Patrol Agents Locate Convicted Sex Offender

DEL RIO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents, assigned to the Brackettville Station, arrested a convicted sex offender who had been previously removed from the country.

On Jan. 11, Youy Alexander Garcia-Chavez, 37, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was apprehended by Brackettville Border Patrol agents near Spofford.

During processing, agents discovered the subject was previously arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a minor in January of 2008 near Houston. He was convicted in January 2009 and sentenced to an eight-year confinement. Garcia-Chavez was deported to Honduras after completing his prison sentence.

Garcia-Chavez faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation, which carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

“An aggravated felon and registered sex offender was stopped before doing more harm to the citizens of this great nation,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “This arrest highlights how dedicated Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents are to the safety of our community.”

During Fiscal Year 2017, to date, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended eight previously deported sex offenders. To report suspicious activity, call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
