Vehicle Burglaries On the Rise: Lock Your Cars

San Angelo, TX -  Following an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries and thefts in the area, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is urging citizens to take precautions.

Locking cars, securing windows, removing valuables and removing keys from all unattended vehicles are simple ways that help prevent this type of crime. Statistically, over 90 percent of the burglaries that occur in the county involved vehicles that were unsecured in one of the mentioned ways.

According to TGCSO, Highland Range, Buffalo Heights and Grape Creek have been some of the most affected areas in this burglary spree. The Sheriff’s office urges citizens to secure and remain vigilant in their neighborhoods.

“The community can help reduce our crime rate just by securing and locking your vehicles,” Sheriff Jones said.

Officers also urge citizens to report any suspicious activity they encounter, as the department is dedicated to finding these criminals and holding them accountable for their actions.

Any information can be relayed to the TGCSO Criminal Investigation Division at 325-655-8111, or by email at tomgreencountysheriff.org using the crime tip button.

I had stuff taken from a relative's vehicle in the Southland area, but didn't report it because the car was unlocked (unable to lock it, unfortunately). If they come back on my property and try to steal more stuff, I'll be ready with my .357 to confront them (not shoot them of course, just scare the hell out of them), and my security camera will catch them if I don't.
