Multiple LE Agencies in Manhunt for Suspect who Shot at a Tom Green County Deputy

A suspect shot at a Tom Green County Sheriff’s deputy early Tuesday night, but missed. According to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Christina Lopez, a deputy responded to a domestic dispute that quickly turned ugly sometime around 8 p.m. Upon arrival for the call for help, the deputy radioed back to dispatch that he was taking gunfire and called for backup.

The San Angelo Police Department SWAT team, Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division, and more Sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist. Initially, it was believed that the suspect was barricaded in a residence at the north end of Runion Road.

Runion Road, in northern Tom Green County, runs parallel to TX-208, about one-half a mile east of the north-south thoroughfare into and out of San Angelo.

The suspected female victim was able to flee to safety during the incident, Lopez said.

The suspect also fled, or had already fled, the residence and was thought to be in the pastureland of heavy, overgrown brush between Runion and TX-208. Local law enforcement called in air support from the DPS and from the U.S. Customs. Helicopters with spotlights could be seen past midnight spotlighting the search area. SAPD K9 units were spotted at the scene. Lopez said that the Midland Police Department was also contributing manpower and assets.

The suspect remains at-large, and is a white male in his mid-40s. His last known whereabouts were in the field between Runion Road to the east and TX-208 to the west. Lopez said he is considered armed and dangerous. She said that the suspect shoot at a deputy at least twice.

So far, no one has sustained any injuries.

Update 7:10 a.m.

The suspect was arrested without incident just after 3 a.m. according to Lopez.

I'm confused about the other guy that was first arrested. Did I miss something, or was there just no information on him? Hopefully there will be some more light shed on this story for a follow up. That must have been quite an argument to think shooting at a cop was a good idea.
