Shootout East of Downtown

Spent bullet casings from a .40 or .45 cal. gun litter the middle of the road on the east side of town, where police have cordoned off a block of residential street with crime scene tape.

At 2:08 p.m., several units responded to a report of gunshots at the 1100 block of Preusser. What they found when they arrived was evidence and witness accounts of a possible shootout between the occupants of two vehicles traveling on the street.

Police aren't revealing what the make and models of the two vehicles are, but one left the scene headed west on Preusser and the other turned north on Buchanan.

There have been no reports of injuries and there are yet to be suspects caught. Police said that the gunshots and the incident were reported by neighbors who observed what happened.

CSI and detectives are investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses.

One round hit a trailer that is parked on the street. At least three casings were found in addition to the round embedded in the trailer.

The incident happened just after 2 p.m. Friday.

This is a breaking story. More information will be printed when police release it.

2:07 p.m. I apologize. It happened fast and a lady selling toner cartridges called when I was in the middle of writing this.
