SAN ANGELO, TX — A woman driving a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling south on Abe St. just before 2 a.m. New Year’s Day. Witnesses told us, they saw the vehicle veer off the street and into the building where Daybreak Health Care Services is located, at 1122 Abe.
The first to arrive at the scene of the crash told us the woman was experiencing a medical issue. Other witnesses called for an ambulance, we were told.
The San Angelo Police officer left the scene to check on the driver at Shannon’s ER.
No other vehicles were involved and the driver was the only occupant, from what we observed at the scene. The building was heavily damaged. Fire department personnel were seen checking the structural integrity of the building, particularly the overhanging façade where all the columns on one side were destroyed.
We are withholding the name of the driver.
