San Angelo Man Dies in Rollover Crash Saturday on Loop 306
SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety released their preliminary crash report on Saturday’s crash on Loop 306.
According to DPS, Samantha Lera Beard, 27, of San Angelo was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on the east Loop 306. For reasons undetermined, the Explorer entered the center median, causing Beard to overcorrect by steering hard right. She lost control of the Explorer and re-entered the northbound lanes in a side-skid.
The Explorer traveled off the east side of the roadway and plunged into the barrow ditch in a side skid, causing the Explorer to roll multiple times.
The Explorer came to a rest in a cornfield on its top.
DPS stated that Beard was not wearing a seatbelt, but her passenger was.
Killed in the crash was passenger James Lee Guillory, 32, of San Angelo. According to Guillory's sister, Rosezetta Guillory, Beard was ejected from the vehicle, and Guillory was still inside the vehicle when it came to a rest. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Fred Buck.
Beard was rushed to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.
The weather was clear and the road conditions dry, according to the report. The crash happened at 1:03 p.m. Saturday.
Corrected: Originally, we were told Guillory was ejected from the vehicle. Based on statements from Guillory's family, and the fact that the DPS crash investigation states Guillory was wearing a seatbelt, we now believe he was still inside the Explorer when first responders arrived. The story is updated.
