Tarleton State University Athlete Killed in Rollover Crash

 

Yesterday at 12:34 p.m., a single vehicle rollover crash took the life of an 18-year-old Brown County student athlete.

Texas DPS reported that McKenzie Denay Cox was traveling west on U.S. 67 about nine miles west of Comanche when she lost control of her 2004 Ford Passenger car. The Ford rolled over and Cox was ejected, DPS reported.

She was rushed to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where she was treated for a punctured lung. According to family members on Facebook, she faced complications with breathing and her heart. She was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m., DPS reported.

Cox was attending Tarleton State in Stephenville where she was a track and field athlete, according to The Flash Today, a hyperlocal news website in Stephenville. She was driving home in Zephyr from Stephenville, Cox’s aunt, Tonya Cox Holland stated on Facebook.

DPS reported that Cox was not wearing a seatbelt.
