One Person Dies in Four-Vehicle Kimble County Crash

KIMBLE COUNTY, TX - A 53-year-old Pittsburg, California woman died last night in a four-vehicle crash on IH 10, approximately 5 miles west of Junction.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials said, at about 11:03 p.m., eastbound traffic on IH 10 was shut down due to a vehicle fire. The drivers of a 2010 Toyota Scion, 2008 Ford F-250 pickup,  and a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado were parked on IH 10 in the eastbound lanes. At the same time, the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on IH 10 when he struck the Scion from the rear, which caused that vehicle to strike the Ford, and the Ford to strike the other Chevy.

DPS said the driver of the 2012 Chevy, 25-year-old Andrew H. Mellick of Knox, Kentucky, did not suffer injuries, but the driver of the Scion, Duckhee Lee, 56, of Pittsburg, California suffered incapacitating injuries, and the passenger, Jungsoon Lee, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, Alex Keith Groves, 28, of San Antonio, suffered non-incapacitating injuries, and the driver of the other Chevy, Darrin Keith Schilling, 45, of Marion, Texas, did not suffer any injuries.

All drivers and the deceased passenger wore seat belts at the time of the crash. The road conditions were clear and dry, and the posted speed limit in the area is 80 mph.

Trooper Whitney Gardner with DPS Junction investigated the crash, and was assisted by the Kimble County Sheriff's Office.
