86-Year-Old Man Dies in Jones County Rollover Crash

 

JONES COUNTY, TX - A press release today by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that an 86-year-old Anson man died in a rollover crash on US 83, about 3 miles north of Abilene in Jones County.

DPS officials said Guy Richard Payne, on Sept. 12 at approximately 1:36 p.m., was traveling north on US 83 when his 2009 Chevrolet pickup veered into the median. Payne lost control of his vehicle, went into a side skid and overturned. His pickup came to rest on the east side of the highway, east of the frontage road.

Payne was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transported to Adams-Graham Funeral Home in Anson.

DPS said Payne did have his seat belt on at the time of the crash, and the posted speed limit in the area is 75 miles per hour. The weather and road conditions were clear and dry.

The crash is still under investigation.
