One Person Dead After Wink Fire Truck Hit Head-On by Semi

WINK, TX - At around 5 p.m. yesterday, a semi-water hauler hit a Wink Volunteer Fire Dept. truck head-on, killing 36-year-old Colby Slaughter. The crash occurred on State Hwy 302 near mile marker 208.

The WVFD was responding to a tank battery fire at the time, and the truck was traveling westbound on 302 with lights and sirens on, said officials.

Local news sources in the area said the semi-water hauler passed eastbound traffic and collided head-on with the fire truck. The driver of the semi and a passenger in the fire truck suffered severe injuries. There's no word yet on their condition.

Texas DPS is leading the investigation.
