Texas Disposal Systems Truck's Wheels Catch Fire

A San Angelo police officer was inside the convenience store at E. 19th St. and Armstrong St. on a call for service when he heard a very loud explosion, he said.

He ran outside and saw a Texas Disposal Systems garbage truck with smoke pouring from the rear wheel wells. “After making sure all were okay, I called the fire department and blocked off the intersection for safety to the public.” Officer Lee Kvittem said.

After the fire department responded, the fire was quickly extinguished. Now some of the double rear tires on both sides are flat and appear to be melted.

The wrecker cleared the scene, and the intersection reopened just after 6:30 p.m.
