Only 24-hour Veterinary Clinic in San Angelo Reduces Hours

SAN ANGELO, TX - The only Veterinary clinic in San Angelo open 24 hours a day, Southside Animal Hospital, has shared that due to a lack of staff, it has been forced to move to regular business hours.

According to a letter sent out to clients, starting Oct. 1, 2023, SAH will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

"It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing that we have found it necessary to change our hours due to a lack of veterinarian staff, and we will no longer be open overnight," the letter read. "We are doing all that we can to increase capacity during weekday and weekend hours in order to minimize the impact of changes in availability of after-hours care."

The letter noted that the Arden Animal Clinic is not 24 hour but would work after hours if called. This makes it now where San Angelo does not have a 24 hour vet clinic

Thank you for trusting Southside Animal Hospital with the veterinary care of your beloved pets and furry family members. It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing that we have found it necessary to change our hours due to lack of veterinarian staff, and we will no longer be open overnight. We are doing all that we can to increase capacity during weekday and weekend hours in order to minimize the impact of changes in availability of after-hours care.

We have enjoyed serving our community as a 24-hour clinic for many years, and it is our hope that we might be able to accommodate that schedule again one day. Please know that this decision was not made hastily or without significant thought, planning and attempts to bring on additional veterinarians to provide care for your pets. We will continue to treat your animals with the utmost compassion and high level of care that we always have and look forward to doing that for a very long time to come.

As of October 1, 2023 our new hours are:

  • Monday - Thursday 8am - 6pm
  • Friday - Sunday 8am - 9pm

We will continue to provide overnight hospitalization services with a member of our technical staff on-site for patient monitoring and treatments. A veterinarian will be available via phone should changes in condition occur for a hospitalized patient.

We will also be providing phone triage services to help you determine if your pet is experiencing an emergency that requires immediate care. We will have same-day appointments available for sick patients.
The following veterinary clinics provide some level of after-hours urgent/emergency care.

Please call ahead to check availability of care and notify their staff of your expected arrival if your pet experiences an emergency.
