Poll: Do You Find the Proposed Angry Cactus Signage for Downtown San Angelo Offensive?

The entrepreneur who is building the proposed Angry Cactus restaurant and bar downtown failed to convince the City of San Angelo Design and Historic Review Commission to approve his proposed signage. One of the issues was that some members on the commission expressed that citizens may find the proposed signage offensive. Others objected because the artist renderings were more or less rough drafts, not final plans for the signage. They wanted architectural drawings of exactly how the cactus sign will appear. The proprietor wanted some artistic freedom in the final appearance, but said it would look very similar to the drawings provided the commission.

We have become a country full of people looking daily for something to be offended or outraged about. Can one of them please tell us what is offensive about an anthropomorphic cactus? It's not like it's a 12 foot tall green penis. I can't shove my head up my culo far enough to pretend I'm on the commission, but I say it's fine.

I didn't vote because the two choices are, IMO, extremes. I do NOT find it particularly offensive. I can't say I like it, but I'm not offended by it. I Maybe I am too tolerant. When I top the hill in Big Spring and see what appears to me a giant green obscene gesture advertising the Red Mesa Cafe, I just laugh! And to be clear--I am making no judgement against the restaurant. I have never eaten there. I just can't help but think their purpose would have been better served by s shorter middle section on the saguaro cactus in the background.

it appears to be a bit spongebobish... yeah a definite spongebob influence. even the front doors and outer decor appear cartoonish... i guess the historic commission was hoping for a western or historic themed design... the design is fine... approve it

Is the proposed signage offensive? Not in my opinion but... come on man did you blow your wad on your 60 foot water feature so you had to hire a 3rd grader to draw up your plans?... I don't blame the City of San Angelo Design and Historic Review Commission for not approving a crayon drawing. What a joke.

I applaud the efforts of the entrepreneur that is attempting to crack the limestone shell that San Angelo is living in. Why, because we live in West Texas, do we have to maintain the Cowboys and Indians theme? Perhaps these restaurant owners don't WANT to appeal to the retired generation? Perhaps they're attemping to draw in the younger crowd - which, like it or not, accounts for more than 1/2 of the new and booming San Angelo population! If this signage doesn't get approved... I hope these people plant a slew of thick cactus along their walkways so that maybe, just maybe the naysayers in this crumbling city will trip and fall and get a face full of truly angry cactus. Geeze... Open up people. Give these ideas a chance!

If you find this offensive, you may have just failed some sort of Rohrschach Test and should seek psychiatric attention for whatever deep seated mental issues you are suffering from. It's his sign. if you don't like it, don't look at it and don't eat there.
