City Hosting Master Plan Meetings For Parks & Recreation Development

SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo is seeking community input as they prepare to shape a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The plan will not only create a vision for the City’s parks, but it will also guide how the public’s priorities are addressed.

The City developed a plan in 2001 and updated it in 2005; a new plan was developed in 2012. Master plans have helped develop and carry out projects like Kirby Community Park, the River project, the dog park and a new boat ramp at Lake Nasworthy, which is currently being designed.

Having a master plan allows the City to compete for grants from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and since 2001 the City has earned nearly $2 million from TPWD for park and trail development. To remain competitive for state grant funding, a city must adopt an updated master plan every five years.

Two meetings will be held on Monday, October 21st at the McNease Convention Center:

  • At 4 p.m. – meeting with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to discuss the master plan. (Meeting is open to the public.)
  • At 5:30 p.m. – meeting with the public to gather input on the master plan including:
    • Parks
    • Recreational facilities
    • Recreational programming for youth
    • Adults and seniors
    • Fees
    • Reservations

The City will also gather public input through a month-long online survey, beginning in late October.
