NWS: Fire Weather Danger Elevated Wednesday Afternoon

SAN ANGELO, TX – Gusty winds Wednesday afternoon have elevated the wildfire danger across West Texas. 

According to the National Weather Service Office in San Angelo, gusty south to southwest winds will combine with dry conditions to result in elevated fire weather conditions Wednesday afternoon.

A cold front will blow through the area Thursday bringing much cooler weather and a chance of thunderstorms. 

Thunderstorms are possible Thursday into Friday. The main hazard will be dangerous lightning.

However, a small window of opportunity will exist for a strong storm or two capable of producing gusty winds and hail tomorrow afternoon for areas east of a Coleman to Ozona line.

In addition, locally heavy rainfall may result in some localized flooding concerns.

The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday with a high temperature of 69 degrees and north winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Thursday night there is a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms with temperatures dropping into the mid 30s with north winds gusting to 25 mph.
