SAPD Catches Car Thief Thanks to K-9 Vader

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department arrested a car thief over the weekend thanks to their K-9 unit Vader.

According to the SAPD, on November 16, officers located a stolen vehicle that they had been searching for at the intersection of 7th and Buchanan.

As officers were approaching the stolen vehicle, the vehicle's driver decided to take off running.

He fled into the Acme Iron scrap yard in hopes to hide from the police.

SAPD called in their K-9 unit Vader who quickly found the man. "His hiding skills were no match for Vader's tracking skills," said SAPD's Facebook.

After Vader smelled out the man, he was detained and identified as 33-year-old John Enriquez.

Enriquez was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest with a vehicle, and evading arrest with a previous conviction.

He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail and his bond is set at $22,500.
