Man Dies in Rollover Crash South of Eden

SAN ANGELO, TX — A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a San Antonio man Sunday afternoon when his 2007 Acura departed the roadway and rolled.

According to the Texas DPS, Welbys David Veras-Peña was driving his Acura northbound on U.S. 83. When he was about one mile south of Eden, he drove off the right side of the prepared surface. The Acura continued for a while along side U.S. 83 in the right side barrow ditch. But, after hitting a second embankment, the car flipped end-over-end over and came to a rest on the car’s top.

Location of the crash:

Veras-Peña was 35 years old and his driver’s license indicated he had a San Antonio home address. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Concho County Justice of the Peace Judge Scott Spoonts.

The DPS could not determine if Veras-Peña was wearing a seatbelt.

The weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time of the crash, which happened at 1:41 p.m. Sunday.
