Sealcoating Crews Start Work in San Angelo on Monday

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Contract crews will begin sealcoating streets in parts of San Angelo on Monday.

According to a press release the City of San Angelo begins its yearly program of street maintenance on July 22.

Contractor Fuquay, Inc. will be sealcoating selected city streets throughout the community. This marks the fifth year of an eight-year cycle to maintain every city roadway in San Angelo. The City Council awarded Fuquay a $3.6 million contract to perform the work.

The work will take four to six weeks. Streets in the Blackshear, Reagan, Riverside, and Angelo Heights neighborhoods will be treated. Additional sealcoating will be performed in the Sherwood Terrace and Westgate Park subdivisions. Maps of the streets to be sealcoated are posted at cosatx.us/streets.

At least seven days before the work begins notice will be given to homeowners that their streets will be treated. This will provide residents with the opportunity to move vehicles from the roadway. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant during the sealcoating weeks as vehicles left in the right-of-way can result in an untreated area of pavement which interferes with the intent of the sealcoating process.

Sealcoating is not to be confused with resurfacing a roadway. Sealcoating involves applying a thin layer of asphalt and rock to a street’s surface. That prevents moisture from seeping into the asphalt and damaging the roadway’s base. The process extends the life of a street’s surface.
