Love's Travel Stop Brings Help for Flood Relief, New Jobs to Rebuilding Community

SONORA, TX-- Less than four months after record flooding overtook the city of Sonora, its residents helped welcome a new business and, with it, continued hope for prosperity.

The popular Love's Travel Stop chain opened doors on its new Sonora store on Tuesday, just off I-10. It's been in the works for months.

However, after the Sept. 21 flooding in their new home, Love's wanted to show the city of 2,700-plus they were in it for the long haul.

"Love's, planning the grand opening, contacted the community and said 'Hey, what is something we could give a gift to on grand opening day," said Matt Lewis of the San Angelo Area Foundation.

That gift was was an undisclosed amount of money donated to the Sonora Flood Relief Fund through the SAAF. After the tragic flooding in the seat of Sutton County, the SAAF spearheaded the funding campaign to provide assistance for the area declared a state of emergency by Gov. Greg Abbott.

But Love's commitment to the community doesn't stop there. The new store will provide 45 jobs for residents in need of work at either the convenience store section, the Chester's Chicken or Subway inside the new building off the interstate highway.

"Here's a brand new employer in Sonora," Lewis said. "In a town that's been hit by a flood, there's folks that need jobs, folks that need work. Well, here's a place. But what's more important, they're turning around and giving money right back into the community as a donation to help flood victims. That's gonna help people rebuild."

Love's boasts more than 480 stores in 41 states across the United States.
