in San Angelo Subdivision Developers Say the Fire Marshal is Harming Economic Progress
Compromising safety in this instance is ridiculous. What happens when EMS personnel are blocked from an area and someone dies? Is the city prepared for that lawsuit? It will be much more expensive than any loss of income from delayed development.
The International Fire Code that the Fire Marshall is guide that almost all cities use to enforce fire codes. Fort Worth a city about 10 times that of San Angelo to the best of my knowledge would like a secondary road in a development but accepts that it is always not possible. Didn't Bentwood open a second exit road on the access of Loop 302? Was this a requirement of the Fire Marshall? I know that the housing area called Butler Farms does not and if required by the Fire Marshall the cost would be excessive. Sometimes people who enforce laws and ordinances are a little over zealous with power..
I'm sure there's no plausible rationale for having multiple routes to a burning building. Nope, must just be the Fire Marshall being a jerk.
I can't help but wonder if the builders bothered to read the ordinances before they decided to build. The secondary ingress should have been part of planning from the beginning, I would think.
So let's change this ordinance for the all mighty dollar. Let's not do the right thing and look toward the future ramifications after the housing boom.

That would (and should) warrant an unexcused absence.
Kind of selfish and immature to make your child suffer the consequences simply because you feel the need to make a point.

Yet some of us are better in front of the camera. This team is doing a great job. I hope in the long run their efforts pay off and more local people appreciate what we have here and hopefully more of the younger generation take an interest in what it takes to run and govern our great city. BD you are correct. My point is that a modern carwash is far more efficient than washing the vehicle at home. As for the self service car wash centers I believe they are still more efficient that the at home automotive garden hose based wash.
The modern car wash is an integrate part of the modern economy and we should that the business owners who have invested their capital and expertise to San Angelo.
Shutting down the car washes and putting people of business and work is not going to help. The number of vehicle owners who wash their vehicles at home will increase.
Mr. Fleming's lack of insight into best business practices, the use and supply of water and long term planning will also affect auto dealerships which wash and detail the used cars they buy to resell.
After a year on council Mr. Fleming has not made himself aware of the issues or familiarized himself with past rational and decisions of the council.
The Hickory Water Treatment Plant is scheduled to come on line in about four months. We have enough water available to support present usage for fourteen months without the Hickory Water.
I see no advantage of damaging the local economy based on Rodney Fleming's inability to rationally understand the present situation and understand long term based planning.
Fleming may have stopped watering his front yard but he is still filling his backyard swimming pool.
If an automated car wash is being green and recycling waste water then they should be able to operate. As far as ole Bob at the do it your self car wash shoving quarters in by the pound, I think they have to close these types of car washes. Also what about the thousands of homies that wash there fine new cars in their driveways? Who's going to police that? Loving neighbor?

Bill Richardson, car washes are indeed private businesses owned by individuals who took the risk of operating a company that relies on the usage of water in a region that borders a desert. Governments, whether municipal, state, or federal, exist to protect the public good, not the special interest of a few individuals who made unfortunate business decisions (despite the precedent set by previous bailout debacles). I am not aware of a car wash in the city that has drilled a well to tap into a private water supply. The water security of a community of over 100,000 citizens trumps the few "job creators" who seek to wash our way into desiccation.
Great job for all your hard work and service to America and San Angelo.

Multimedia Coordinator Brian Groves is the true mastermind behind The City in 60. His production makes the Public Info Officer look better than he deserves. The PIO's role is simply to hammily and happily play the stooge in the videos. Glad folks seem to like them. If you think there's a topic we should tackle, please let us know.

Don't tell any of the old fogies this, but the city's YouTube channel is a great idea! I rather like some of the videos as they are informative, a little tongue in cheek, and relevant. It's like San Angelo is beginning to grow up a bit, despite the hard push to keep it in the 1920s.
Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.
