Police Officer Arrested After Violating Bond Conditions

SAN ANTONIO, TX—A car accident led to the arrest of a San Antonio police officer after authorities discovered he had violated his bond conditions after facing a domestic violence charge.

According to KSAT, on Sunday afternoon SAPD officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Interstate 10 West for a possible assault in progress,

When officers arrived, they located a gray four-door vehicle that has crashed into a guardrail. Inside the car officers located the driver, Officer Jonathan Montalvo, and his 25-year-old girlfriend.

The girlfriend told police Montalvo had not assaulted her and according to police, she had injuries consistent with the crash.

Investigators found out that Montalvo had been arrested in November of 2019 for allegedly assaulting the same woman. A condition of his bond was the prohibition of contact with the woman and Montalvo was placed on administrative leave.

Montalvo confirmed to authorities the woman was his girlfriend and that they are in fact living together.

The officer was taken into custody and charged with violation of conditions of bond by contact, a misdemeanor.

SAPD confirmed Montalvo’s duty weapon and personal firearm were collected after the initial arrested and remain in police custody. His status has been changed from administrative duty to temporary administrative leave.
