Gas Plant Explosion Causes Panic

 

SNYDER, TX – A Tuesday night explosion created panic at the Kinder Morgan gas plant in Snyder.

According to KTXS, the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department responded to the explosion around 8:30 p.m. Anyone living within a one-mile radius of the plant was asked to temporarily evacuate the area by the Snyder Office of Emergency Management.

“Due to an incident at the Kinder Morgan Gas Plant we are asking anyone within a 1-mile radius of the plant to temporarily evacuate the area,” said the emergency management office in a Facebook post. “This is only as a precautionary measure. We will update everyone when the all-clear is given.”

According to the office, a  "flare 'burped' sending liquid to the flare." The plant’s safety systems functioned as they were designed to and shut down the plant.

Around 9:30 the all-clear was provided and people were allowed to return to their homes as employees worked to bring the plant back online.
