Big Spring Drowning Victim Identified

BIG SPRING, TX — A man drowned over the weekend at the lake in Big Spring and he has now been identified.

Big Spring police reported that John Paul Rodriguez, 20, was at Moss Lake on Sunday when he drowned. Rodriguez was using an air mattress as a raft with two other people when the wind blew them far from shore.

The other two were able to swim back to shore but, sadly, Rodriguez went under and did not resurface. Officers were called to the scene and were assisted by Big Spring and Howard County Fire Departments, as well as Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Their efforts extended until nightfall of Sunday and continued at 7:00 a.m. Monday. At 11:30 a.m. today, Texas Parks and Wildlife officers recovered the body.

An autopsy has been scheduled but, it was reported that foul play was not suspected nor do they believe alcohol was involved, according to KWES.
