Odessa Family Investigated for Child Endangerment

 

ODESSA, TX –  Odessa Police have arrested Nolyn Wayne McMaryion, date of birth 11/22/1983, for four counts of Endangering a Child “State Jail Felony”. 

On November 1, 2017 at approximately 2024 hours, Odessa Police responded to the 8600 block of Duke in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 32-year-old female and her husband, identified as McMaryion. Investigation revealed that an AK-47 rifle was laid on the back of a recliner. 

An one point, a 1-year-old female was placed on the same recliner as the rifle. The rifle accidentally discharged and fired a chambered round through the wall and into the master bedroom before striking the 32-year-old in the leg. The 32-year-old female was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury. 

Officers observed cockroaches in every room of the residence as well as dog and cat feces scattered throughout furniture and floors. Officers could not walk throughout the residence without stepping on trash scattered throughout the residence. The kitchen fridge was full of spoiled food as well as dishes and expired food piled excessively in the sink and on the countertops. 

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Odessa Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. Officers located 12 rifles, 1 pistol and unsecured dog house in the backyard. Officers located three more children in the backyard, identified as a 7-year-old male, 10-year-old male and 7-year-old female. 

Officers also located a bag with three traces of white powdery substance inside of the residence. The substance tested positive for cocaine. The children were in the immediate proximity of  unsecured firearms and narcotics. The residence was below a reasonable standard of hygiene for the children. 

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, McMaryion was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC. CPS was notified and the children were released to a family member. 

The investigation continues.
