West Texas A&M Officer Dies From Medication Treating Feral Cat Bite

 

CANYON, TX -- A West Texas A&M police officer died last Friday after a severe reaction to the medicine prescribed to treat a feral cat bite.

Cpl. Monty Dale Platt,47, was bitten by a feral cat while responding to call at the West Texas A&M campus two weeks ago in Canyon, according to the university police Facebook post

Last Thursday, Platt began to feel ill and was admitted to the urgent care unit after he had a severe reaction to the prescribed anti-infection medication for the cat bite. Platt was then admitted to the ICU later that evening.

Platt was transferred to Lubbock Hospital on Friday. He passed away later that evening from kidney failure causing his blood temperature to drop. 

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, August 11th, at the St. Ann’s Church at 605 38th St, in Canyon. Platt served with the University Police Department since 1996.
