Alpine School District Brings in Trauma Expert After Active Shooting

ALPINE, TX- As Alpine students made their way back to school this Monday morning, they had to face a startling reality: an active shooting took place at their school, and, as a result, things will never be the same. To help face the trauma, the Alpine school district brought in a trauma expert to help students and faculty work through the traumatic event. Details of the active shooting can be found here.

Yesterday, a parent and community forum was held to give tips on how to cope with the traumatic stress brought onto the children from the active shooting.

A local news source in the Alpine area stated, “More than 150 Alpine residents attended the forum at the Alpine Civic Center. The district decided to hold the event so the parents could possibly understand the situation better through the eyes of their children.”

Veronica Sites, a volunteer responder for Homeland Security, was the main speaker at the forum. She advised parents to be vigilant and watch social media posts from their children. She also told them to listen carefully and offer reassurance.

At the end of the parent and community forum, people were allowed to ask their own questions directed to the superintendent.
