Reports: Big Spring Man Sustained Burns in Gas Plant Explosion

 

KBYG news radio in Big Spring reports that one man was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital with burns following an accident at the West Texas Gas (WTG) plant 12 miles northeast of Big Spring Sunday evening.

According to the report, Howard County VFD Chief Tommy Sullivan said that  “when the flare at the plant somehow was emitting gas but did not properly ignite and vapors collected near a plant vehicle that contained a worker. The vapors ignited, engulfing the vehicle in flames and injuring the occupant.” The man has not been identified and his condition is unknown as of Monday morning at 11 a.m.

KBYG reported on their Facebook page that a grass fire ignited during the incident, but volunteer firefighters contained and brought it under control quickly. It consumed only one acre.
