Injured San Angelo Central RB Talks Return From ACL Tear

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Central senior running back Bobby Pena is facing a long road back to the field and not backing down heading into his last year at Central High School.

During Central’s spring game on May 23, Pena looked to cut away from a defender and felt a pop. He said he didn’t want to accept it, but knew it was the worst case scenario: a torn ACL.

That’s not stopping Pena, who hopes to be back at the beginning of October. That’s much faster than usual for ACL injuries.

“It’s been an extremely rough process,” Pena said. “Going through the rehab process, I had time to be upset and look at the statistics that most people aren’t gonna come back that fast. After having my surgery and talking with my (physical therapist) and the doctor and all, they’ve said they’ve seen it in four months. The people that do it are something else and I feel like that’s gonna be me because I know my work ethic and know the way I am.”

Pena talked with our Manny Diaz about the process of rehabbing his knee and his hopes when he does get fully healthy.
