LAS VEGAS, NV — San Angelo tie-down roper Joel Harris followed up his Round 5 victory with a fourth-place showing Tuesday in Round 6 at the National Finals Rodeo.
Harris had a time of 7.6 seconds that earned him $14,127.
In his first appearance at the NFR, the 22-year-old cowboy has performed like a veteran. In addition to Monday’s win, he was also second in Round 1 and third in Round 3.
Harris remained in fifth place in the overall standings with season earnings of $221,351.35.
It’s been a remarkable run for Harris and two other San Angelo competitors, including his brother Ty, as they’re all currently in the top eight in the world.
However, Joel was the only San Angelo cowboy to finish in the money Tuesday. Dylan Hancock finished one spot out in seventh place in 9.2 seconds, while Ty was 11th in 14.1.
Ty Harris is in fourth place in the overall standings ($276,986.42). Hancock is eighth ($179,398.42).
Montana’s Haven Meged won Round 6 in 6.9 seconds to move into third place in the overall standings.
Denton’s Riley Webb is still in the top spot after a fifth-place showing Tuesday, but his lead has been whittled after Shad Mayfield from Clovis, New Mexico took second place.
Webb’s season earnings of $363,285.67 are less than $7,000 ahead of Mayfield, who has $356,657.59 with four rounds remaining.
The 10-day competition will continue with Round 7 on Wednesday.
