Bobcats Stomp Benbrook in First Round of Doug McCutchen Memorial Tournament

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Central Bobcats (6-0) hosted Fort Worth Benbrook in the opening round of the Doug McCutchen Memorial Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Central High School.

The 'Cats scored early and often, and their high-octane defense suffocated Benbrook up and down the court. Central led at the half, 41-10. Head Coach CJ Villegas sat his starters midway through the 3rd quarter, and the Bobcats won dominantly, 73-32.

The Bobcats shared the load offensively as Kollin Allbright, Jaedyn Gipson, and Jacoby Yates scored 10 points. Caleb Jordan followed close behind with nine points.

The most impressive aspect of the victory was Central's defense. Benbrook never managed to find meaningful scoring opportunities as the 'Cats ran full-court press the entire game. Allbright, Yates, and both Jacob and Christian English were particularly effective at creating turnovers. The 'Cats scored many of their points off of the fast break.

San Angelo Central plays Temple in the second round of the tournament on Friday, Dec. 2, at noon, at Central High School.
