ASU: Rams Football Fall Schedule for 2020 Released

SAN ANGELO, TX – Angelo State University announced that the ASU Rams football team has chosen to play games this fall rather than delay the football season until the 2021 spring semester.

The Rams are scheduled to open up their 2020 season at home as they face LSC rival West Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 26 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

After that, ASU will be hitting the road on Oct. 10 to take on Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches before facing off against West Texas A&M once more, this time on the road at Buffalo Stadium on Oct. 24 in Canyon, Tx.

The Rams will also be traveling to Abilene as they are scheduled to face Abilene Christian on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Lone Star Conference announced Sept. 4, that member universities would be given the opportunity to choose between playing football, volleyball and soccer in the fall or in the spring.

These decisions will be chosen as individual choices of each institution, and will not require any further conference approval.

However, any institution that chooses to play these sports during the fall 2020 semester will not be eligible to compete in LSC Championship play during the spring 2021 semester.

A letter from ASU President Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr. to the campus on Sept. 4 states, " Athletics is a significant part of the college experience and the overall wellbeing of Angelo State University. I believe successful athletic programs are a window into the university. In working closely with other university presidents and the Lone Star Conference, we have been endlessly hopeful that fall sports can take place in some form in the fall."

"The entire ASU leadership team has spent a tremendous amount of time and consideration of all factors involving the fall sports of football, volleyball and soccer. We have also thoroughly taken into account the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA, State of Texas and City of San Angelo. Angelo State is committed to exercising extreme caution and staying diligent, responsible, and serious about the health and safety of our Ram Family members and campus visitors", said Hawkins.

Hawkins went on to say, "ASU recognizes the impact that athletics has on the Ram Family and our students’ experience and wellbeing. The tradition of football lies deep in the hearts of many students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends, and we do not take this lightly. More details regarding game times, tickets and safety protocol will be made available to you on September 15, 2020. We will also address what will take place with our volleyball and soccer teams at that time.”
