San Angelo Central's Defensive Coordinator Named Head Coach/AD at Blue Ridge ISD

SAN ANGELO, TX — Mark Chester, the defensive coordinator for the San Angelo Central Bobcats, is leaving. Chester announced via Twitter this morning that he accepted a new position with the Blue Ridge ISD northeast of the Dallas Metroplex. He will be the head football coach and athletic director there.

“My family and are incredibly grateful and excited for this opportunity. Thank you to our @AngryOrangeFB players and coaches, it has been an incredible ride!” Chester tweeted in his announcement.

San Angelo ISD Athletic Director Brent McCallie offered his congratulations. “It’s going to be a great one!” he tweeted.

The San Angelo Central Bobcat football team’s defense had a stand-out performance in the 2018 season. While the offense straightened out its offense after star quarterback Maverick McIvor was injured and out for the season, the defense stepped up. After a defeat at Cedar Park, Chester honed in on his squad’s weaknesses, fixed them, and a week later at El Paso Pebble Hills, held the Bobcat’s opponent to the lowest score that season so far.

Building off that momentum, the Central defense never quit and it was Chester’s goal to get the ball back into the hands of the Angry Orange offense as fast as possible.

Blue Ridge is a move up the ladder in Chester’s career. “Well deserved Chester you’re one of the true great talents and more importantly guys in the industry. Central and our family are lucky to know you and I know your gonna kill it at Blue Ridge,” tweeted San Angelo Central High School’s Head Coach Brent Davis.
