Evans Tabbed to Lead Sonora Boy's Basketball

SONORA, TX -- The Sonora Broncos have found their new head basketball coach and they didn't have to go far.

Darian Evans was named the new head basketball coach at Sonora High School, an administrator told San Angelo LIVE! on Thursday.

Evans previously served as an assistant under former head coach Guy Barnett, who is leaving after two years at the post. This will be the first head coaching gig for the 2017 graduate of Angelo State University.

Prior to attending Angelo State, Evans was a three-sport standout for the Ballinger Bearcats. Evans played football and basketball and ran track for Ballinger in his four years of high school.

Evans said he's excited to get his first head coaching break in the area he grew up in.

Sonora finished the year 13-14 overall and 4-8 in district play, just two games behind a playoff berth.
