AREA SOFTBALL: Weather Wreaks Havoc on Saturday Games, Updates from Friday

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The latest round of showers has thrown a wrench into Saturday's slate of games in District 4-3A.

Brady vs TLCA and Wall vs Sonora have both been postponed. Reagan County vs Grape Creek is still scheduled for today.

Brady vs TLCA will be played on Wednesday, April 10, at 5:00 p.m. No date has been set yet for the rescheduled Wall vs Sonora game.

Brooks Shines to Help Miles Down Winters

The Miles Lady Bulldogs picked up a 7-2 win over the Winters Lady Blizzards on Friday thanks to more stellar play from junior Skyler Brooks.

Brooks was solid in the circle, allowing two runs, one earned on six hits with five strikeouts. She was more dominant at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored.

Mikaela Fernandez had the most productive day for the Lady Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Miles jumped in the lead with two runs in the first and another in the third. Winters pulled a run back in the fourth, only for Miles to tack on four more runs in the final three innings.

Winters' Rodriguez was 2-for-3 at the plate. McKenzie Ventress had the only RBI after going 0-for-1 at the plate.

Miranda Rodriguez took the loss for Winters after going seven innings and allowing seven runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts.

Miles (11-11, 4-3) travels to Hermleigh on Tuesday. Winters (13-7, 4-2) travels to Rotan on Monday.

Armstrong, Mason Hold Junction in Check

The Mason Cowgirls kept their unbeaten district record with an 11-1 win over rival Junction in five innings on Friday.

The Cowgirls, led by junior pitcher Jesse Armstrong, held the Lady Eagles to just two hits. Armstrong would also strikeout seven batters in five innings.

Presley Anastas and Ashlyn Gleghorn combined for four RBIs despite registering a hit in the win. Gleghorn also had three runs scored. Anastas scored two runs.

Vanessa Rodriguez was the only Cowgirl to tally multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Alejandra Villanueva drove in the only run for Junction and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Jordan Johnson picked up the only other hit for the Lady Eagles.

Johnson would take the loss in the circle after allowing 11 runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Mason (12-7, 7-0) hosts Menard on Tuesday. Junction (10-8, 3-3) travels to Eldorado on Tuesday.

Abilene's Fifth Inning Explosion Weakens Central's Playoff Hopes

The Central Lady Cats' playoff hopes took a big hit after losing 16-0 to Abilene High on Friday.

The loss bumped the Lady Cats out of fourth place. They now sit a half-game behind Fort Worth Richland in the final playoff spot with three more games to play.

Abilene led the entire game, but didn't flex their first place muscle until the fourth inning when they exploded for five runs to go up 8-0. They put up seven more runs in the seventh inning to cap off their dominant night.

Central was held to just six hits and was struck out 10 times in the game.

Taylor Martin and Emily Sanchez were bright spots for the Lady Cats, each going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Central (10-12-1, 4-5) will now have to clinch a playoff berth on the road as they start a three-game road trip, starting at Hurst Bell next Friday.
