Report: Kade Burns Steps Away from Coaching for Principal Job at Mason.

MASON, TX -- Mason head football coach and athletic director Kade Burns is stepping away from coaching to be Mason High School's principal.

Mason's Superintendent John Schumacher tweeted and posted to the school's Facebook page that Burns had accepted the job on Tuesday. Current principal Chris Habecker is retiring at the end of the school year.

We reached out to Burns after hearing the news to see if he would be stepping away from coaching. Burns had not returned our request for comment at the time of publication.

Multiple reports began to surface that he was in fact leading. Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine Managing Editor Greg Tepper tweeted confirmation of Burns' decision.

In eight years at his alma mater, Burns was 100-9 with two state championships, including their win over New Deal to cap off an undefeated 2018 season.

It's unclear whether Mason will promote their next coach from within -- current coordinator Michael McCleod is a Mason product -- or scan the horizons for their next coach.

This is a developing story.
